Job Summary

American Guard Services is currently seeking experienced Maritime Security Officers – X-Ray Screeners for a seasonal/temporary assignment at Ports America in San Pedro, California .

We are specifically looking for security professionals with X-ray screening experience and TSA screening certification/qualification who are prepared to work in a fast-paced maritime security environment.

Selected officers will receive assignment-specific training and refresher training prior to deployment . However, applicants must already have the required screening background and qualifications to be considered for this position.

This position is ideal for dependable, observant, and professional security officers who understand the importance of following established screening procedures while providing excellent service in a port environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate X-ray screening equipment in accordance with established security procedures and site requirements.
• Screen bags, packages, personal belongings, and other items presented for inspection.
• Monitor X-ray images to identify prohibited, restricted, suspicious, or potentially dangerous items.
• Follow required procedures when an item requires additional inspection or escalation.
• Maintain awareness of the screening area and immediately report unusual or suspicious activity.
• Control access to assigned areas and verify credentials as required.
• Follow maritime, facility, client, and security procedures at all times.
• Maintain accurate screening records, logs, and incident documentation when required.
• Communicate professionally with supervisors, employees, visitors, customers, and other security personnel.
• Maintain a professional security presence while providing courteous customer service.
• Follow post orders and instructions provided by American Guard Services and the assigned facility.

Required Qualifications

• TSA X-Ray Screener certification/qualification – Required
• Previous X-ray screening experience – Required
• Valid California Guard Card – Required
• TWIC Card
• Strong visual observation and attention-to-detail skills
• Ability to follow detailed screening procedures and security protocols
• Strong verbal communication and customer service skills
• Ability to remain alert and professional in a high-security environment
• Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods while performing assigned security duties
• Dependable transportation and a strong record of punctuality and attendance

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous maritime, port, transportation, terminal, aviation, or high-security facility experience
• Previous experience operating security screening or detection equipment
• Experience working in access control or regulated security environments

Training

Although previous X-ray screening experience and the required TSA screening qualification are required for consideration, selected candidates will participate in site-specific training and refresher training before beginning the Ports America assignment.

Officers must successfully complete all required company, client, and assignment-specific training before being placed on post.

Schedule & Assignment

This is a seasonal/temporary maritime security assignment supporting operations at Ports America in San Pedro.

Work schedules and available shifts will be based on port operations, client requirements, and staffing needs. Officers must be dependable and available for the shifts they accept.

Looking for Additional Hours?

While the Ports America assignment is seasonal/temporary , American Guard Services has additional security accounts.

Officers who are interested in working additional hours may be considered for available shifts at other American Guard Services accounts, including land-based and other security assignments .

Additional assignments may provide an opportunity to supplement hours when port shifts are not available. Placement on other accounts will depend on:

• Available open shifts
• Officer availability
• Qualifications and licensing
• Client and site requirements
• Location
• Company staffing needs

Additional hours and assignments are not guaranteed.

Additional Hours: While the Ports America assignment is seasonal/temporary, officers interested in full-time hours may have opportunities to work additional shifts at other American Guard Services locations and security accounts. Additional assignments are based on officer availability, qualifications, open shifts, client requirements, and company staffing needs.
